FESTÉ 2009 SUMMER SCHOOLS IN DERBY

LOS NINOS CON RITMO CHILDREN WITH RHYTHM

The last two years has seen FESTÉ emerge as a major event in Derby's cultural calendar. Over the weekend September 4, 5, 6,  FESTÉ 2009 will again present series of spectacular, outdoor, free arts events in the city centre, but this year we are increasing the scale of public participation. 

In August Derby Jazz will be running LOS NINOS CON RITMO Festé Summer Schools in Junior Schools across the city. Designed to excite, stimulate and challenge children the Summer Schools will prepare around 100 children for participation in a spectacular FESTÉ musical parade through the city centre on the afternoon of Saturday September 5th.

Working with Déda, Derby City Council Arts in Education, Derby LIVE, Music Hot House and QUAD, Derby Jazz has carefully designed LOS NINOS CON RITMO Summer Schools to give children an exciting, creative learning experience and to engage them in the spectacle of FESTÉ 2009.

Each Summer School, for 12 - 15 children, will be led by its own enthusiastic, well prepared musician/ tutor.

 

The children will learn to

                        Make music together,

                        Play various percussion instruments,

                        Play several Latin American rhythms,

                        Dance, walk and parade while playing.

 

Derby Jazz will provide

                        An exciting and rewarding one week Summer School for 12 - 15 children from
                        your school.

                        A day of taster sessions in your school in June or July.

                        An enthusiastic, well prepared, CRB checked tutor.

                        A suitable set of percussion instruments. (Which the school can keep after the
                        project.)

                        A workbook and certificate of achievement for every child.

                        A half day session with a dance tutor from Déda.

                        Participation for every child in Derby Festé.

 

Each school will be asked to provide

                   A suitable learning environment for taster sessions and summer school.

                   An enthusiastic classroom assistant - for taster sessions, summer school and Festé
                   street parade/performance.

                   Enrolment of 12 - 15 Key Stage 2 children.

                   Parental photo and video clearance for every child.

                   Single payment per cohort to Derby Jazz. (see below)

 

LOS NINOS CON RITMO resources are limited and schools will be accepted into the project on a first come first served basis.
